The European Union has published a notice saying it intends to maintain its restrictive measures on Mr Amr Armanazi, who is listed on the EU’s Syria sanctions measures (which impose an EU wide asset freeze and travel ban on those listed), and will amend the statement of reasons given for his inclusion.
Currently, Mr Armanazi is listed for being Director General of the Syrian Scientific Studies and Research Centre (SSRC), responsible for providing support to the Syrian army for the acquisition of equipment used directly for the surveillance and repression of demonstrators, being responsible for the violent repression of the civilian population, and supporting the regime. Mr Armanazi appears in the Annexes to Council Implementing Regulation (EU) 793/2014 and Council Implementing Decision 2014/488/CFSP.
The notice informs Mr Armanazi that he may submit a request to the Council to obtain the new reasons before 27 March 2015.
A list of EU sanctions in force against Syria is in the “sanctions in force” section of this blog.
