Ukraine calls for sanctions in response to Savchenko trial

Ukraine has requested that the EU impose sanctions on 44 Russians and 2 Ukrainians it says are responsible for the “illegal detention and falsified trial” of Nadiya Savchenko, a Ukrainian military pilot and politician who was sentenced to 22 years in prison by a Russian court on Tuesday for directing artillery fire that killed 2 Russian journalists in eastern Ukraine.
