US continues non-nuclear sanctions on Iran

President Obama has continued the national emergency the US first declared with respect to Iran in 1979, with the effect that non-nuclear related US sanctions on Iran will continue for another year.  Although, under the JCPOA nuclear agreement, the US is set to lift most of its nuclear-related sanctions on Iran over the coming years (see previous blog), the US maintains a number of other sanctions regimes on Iran, including a general prohibition on trade.
