Possible new US Russia sanctions for election hacking

hqdefaultReports suggest the the Obama administration may impose new sanctions on Russia for its alleged interference in the 2016 Presidential election by cyber attacks (which Russia denies). The President issues an executive Order in April 2015 (which has not yet been used) authorising the US Treasury to impose sanctions on individuals and entities responsible for malicious cyber-activities that form or are likely to form a serious threat to the security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States (see previous blog). The Russian foreign ministry has said that Russia will respond if the US imposes these new measures.
