OFAC sanctions new Yakuza syndicate

tokyo-street-1OFAC has sanctioned a new Yakuza syndicate and 3 of its key executives, adding them to its SDN List under US sanctions targeting transnational criminal organisations.  President Obama first imposed sanctions on the Japanese Yakuza criminal network in 2011.

The newly designated Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi (KYG) and its core clan, the Yamaken-gumi, are said to be breakaway groups from the largest Yakuza organisation the Yamaguchi-gumi.  The 3 executives are the KYG’s leader Kunio Inoue, Lieutenant Osamu Teraoka, and Senior Official Takashi Ikeda, one of only 2 second-tier Yakuza affiliates to have been targeted by US sanctions.
