Japan and EU call for more sanctions on DPRK

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, President of the EU Council Donald Tusk, and President of the EU Commission Jean-Claude Juncker have released a joint statement condemning North Korea’s latest ballistic missile launch. They state say they are ready to strengthen sanctions, and call for the early adoption of “a new and comprehensive UN Security Council Resolution”.

In addition to calling on North Korea to immediately abandon all nuclear, WMD, and ballistic missile programmes, the statement says that North Korea must promptly address the international community’s humanitarian and human rights concerns, including through speedily resolving the issue of abductions.
