Criteria for Inclusion in Targeted Measures

Targeted measures are imposed “against certain persons, entities and bodies who seek to prevent or block a peaceful political process, or who take action that undermines stability in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau”

In particular, measures have targeted “those who played a leading role in the mutiny of 1st April 2010 and the coup d’etat of 12th April 2012 and whose actions continue to be aimed at undermining the rule of law and the primacy of civilian power”

Council Regulation (EU) No 377/2012 (4 May 2012) travel bans and asset freezes listed against General Antonio Injai and five other senior military leaders responsible for the coup d’etat of 12th April 2012

Amended by Council Implementing Regulation (EU) No 458/2012 (31 May 2012) increased the total number of military leaders subject to targeted sanctions to 21

Amended by Council Implementing Regulation (EU) No 559/2013 (18 June 2013) made minor updates to the details of one listed individual
